HINDU CLUB

Fundado en 1919 por un grupo de estudiantes del Colegio La Salle, terminando su bachillerato.

Al término del curso interpretaron, como era tradicional, una obra teatral sobre un tema de la India que tuvo gran éxito, y por ello se llamaron el Grupo Hindustánico. De allí el origen del nombre para un club que decidieron formar para continuar su relación post-bachillerato para seguir son la amistad estudiantil.

Recibieron para ello un pequeño terreno aledaño al molino harinero perteneciente a padres de dos de ellos y allí comenzaron sus primeras prácticas deportivas en basketball. Posteriormente alquilaron un pequeño inmueble para poder reunirse amistosamente. Poco después agregaron el football y la natación a sus actividades y lentamente se desarrolló el Hindú Club.

Muy rápido comenzaron a sorprender por sus logros deportivos en diversas disciplinas. En 1923 Hindú Club ya competía en 1ra división de basketball y después de 3 campeonatos ganados, integrantes de Hindú Club representaron a la Argentina en los Juegos Olímpicos de París. Con el tiempo necesitaron una expansión y en 1935, con el aval de padres y amigos, adquirieron 83 Has. con un campo de golf del Ferrocarril Central Córdoba, cuando el mismo se vendió al Gobierno Argentino. Estos terrenos anteriormente habían pertenecido a la familia de Marcelo T. de Alvear. Así este grupo había cumplido un sueño y su propósito: destacarse en actividades deportivas y vencer al rival más poderoso, el paso del tiempo y el olvido.

Founded in 1919 by a group of private-school students, who were finishing high school. At the end of the final term they staged, as was traditional, a theater play about an Indian theme, which met with great success and thus they named themselves the Grupo Hindustánico . There the origin of the name for a club which they started to continue their post-school relationship and thus not breaking their student friendship. They obtained a small plot of land near a flour mill belonging to fathers of two of them and there started their first sport practices, in basketball. They rented later a small house to be able to carry out friendly meetings. Further on they added soccer and swimming to their activities and very slowly the Hindú Club took shape.

Very fast they started to surprise for their sport achievements in various disciplines. In 1923 Hindú Club already competed in the 1st division of basketball and after 3 championships won, Hindú Club representatives carried the Argentine colours to the Paris Olympic Games. With time they felt the need to expand and in 1935, with the help of parents and friends, they bought 200 acres with a golf course belonging to the British-owned Central Cordoba Railway, when same was sold to the Argentine Government. This land was formerly owned by the family of Marcelo T. de Alvear. Thus this group realized their dream and their purpose: to outstand in sport activities and to defeat the most powerful competitor: the passage of time and oblivion.
